The Gulf of Mexico waters off Sisal Yucatan offer some of the most productive and least-pressured sport fishing on Mexico's Gulf Coast. Rich upwellings of nutrients support an extraordinary food chain that translates into excellent populations of snook (robalo), cubera snapper, red snapper, king mackerel, crevalle jack, and seasonally, the spectacular tarpon (sábalo).
Our fishing guides are local fishermen who have spent their lives reading these waters. They know the fishing banks, the seasonal movements of each species, the tides that activate feeding and the techniques that work in these specific conditions. A day fishing with our guides isn't a tourist excursion — it's an education in traditional Gulf fishing from people who depend on it for their livelihood.
Target Species and Best Seasons
Snook (robalo): September through February, especially in mangrove channels at dawn. Red snapper: April through September on rocky banks offshore. Cubera snapper: year-round on deeper structure. Tarpon: October through January — spectacular fighting fish that leap clear of the water. King mackerel and crevalle jack: year-round. Ask us about current species availability when you contact us.
Fishing Modalities: Choose Your Adventure
We offer three fishing experiences: open Gulf fishing for snapper and mackerel (fast boats, 3-6 miles offshore), mangrove channel fishing for snook at dawn (silent approach, sight fishing), and artisanal fishing with local fishermen using traditional methods. Each has its own character and target species. We also organize small catch-and-release tournaments for groups.
What to Expect and How to Prepare
Departures are early — typically 5:30-6am. Bring sunscreen, hat, polarized sunglasses, plenty of water and clothes you don't mind getting wet or stained with fish. Basic tackle is provided, but serious anglers are welcome to bring their own gear. After the trip, we can connect you with local restaurants to prepare your catch in traditional Yucatecan style.
